Wasted medicines bill tops £3m in Somerset. HEALTH professionals and patients across Somerset are being asked to help at least save £3million wasted on medicines every year.

Significant new therapy options available to patients.
10 innovative products were launched with novel mechanisms of action including a new oral therapy for multiple sclerosis, a monoclonal antibody for osteoporosis and bone metastases, and a therapeutic vaccine for prostate cancer. There were also 6 NCEs bringing new options with existing mechanisms including new treatments for rheumatoid arthritis, prostate cancer and meningitis.
5 orphan drugs were launched in 2010 bringing new options to patients in diseases with smaller prevalence. More than half of new brands in 2010 were not NCEs.
